A Preface to Alternative Sources of Energy

Submitted by on December 29, 2009 One Comment

Alternative Sources of Energy are, by no means, a new topic. There are numerous ways of harnessing energy from natural sources, the most widely in use being solar and wind energy. As more and more countries implement ways to utilize this untapped potential for power, a lot of houses, mine included, have begun to use renewable electrical energy by building their own homemade power systems.

Sources Of Energy

An Introduction to Alternative sources of energy – Wind and Solar Power are the most noteworthy sources of replenishable energy and they do not yield pollutants into the environment when harnessed, in stark contrast to fossil fuels. Other potential sources of non-polluting energy include hydropower and geothermal energy. Renewable sources of energy are much better sources of energy compared to conventional sources of energy because of the lack of pollution caused when harnessing them. Wind energy is harnessed using large wind turbines which can generate electricity and the source being renewable, the effective cost is certainly much lower than that of conventional sources of electricity. In fact, some regions of the United States of America are using it widely – these include parts of the Midwest and Texas. Solar power is also in use in a lot of households. People set up solar panels on their roof to produce electricity from sunlight! Apart from that, possibilities of running automobiles on solar power are also being explored. Solar power can indirectly power all the appliances used in a home.

Sources Of Energy

The viability of alternative sources of energy is a hot topic of debate in recent times. While replacing conventional sources of energy is essential due to the expected shortage of supply of fossil fuels in the near future and the large amount of pollution liberated when harnessing them, their complete replacement is not currently practical because of the immediate cost of change of infrastructure. A great amount of research is in progress to examine the implementation of renewable sources of energy as the primary source of power, the world over. However, the revolution has begun – and it will proceed – even if, at a gradual pace of change.
